Abbottabad: Hydro (Private) Limited set up a temporary medical clinic near the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project in collaboration with the Pakistan Army at the project site. Offering free medical services for the surrounding communities, the initiative immediately garnered significant commendation from local residents.
Located in the mountainous area of northwestern Pakistan, the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project is surrounded by communities that have long faced a scarcity of medical resources. Residents grapple with practical challenges such as long travel distances to healthcare facilities and limited treatment options. To effectively address these local concerns and give back to the communities, SK Hydro (Private) Limited actively collaborated with the Pakistan Army at the project site and played a significant role in this free medical service initiative. The military unit dispatched two experienced medical officers for medical consultations. SK Hydro (Private) Limited, accurately identifying the needs for common local ailments, procured over 100 types of essential medications, including Amoxicillin, Azithromycin, Cephalosporin antibiotics, and eye drops. This robust support in both personnel and material solidified the foundation for the service, ensuring that the benefits of the event tangibly reached the local population.
On the site, in consideration of the local climate and environmental conditions, two medical officers focused on providing precise diagnoses for highly prevalent common ailments such as influenza, eye infections, and joint pain, as well as chronic conditions including hypertension and chronic gastritis. They also distributed free medications on-site, including Amoxicillin and Azithromycin, to effectively alleviate the challenges residents face regarding “long travel distances to healthcare facilities and limited availability of medicines”. Furthermore, the medical officers delivered real-time medication guidance, health consultations, and popularized hygiene and disease prevention knowledge in view of limited health awareness among the local population. All these endeavors were made to encourage the adoption of scientific and healthy living habits, thereby contributing to the overall improvement of public health awareness in communities. The initiative provided consultations to more than 200 residents on the day it was launched for its professional, efficient medical services, and thoughtful and practical measures. According to the activity arrangement, the initiative will reach other surrounding communities in the future.
Funded, constructed, and operated by China Energy Overseas Investment Co., Ltd., the Suki Kinari Hydropower Project has consistently adhered to the principle of “Extensive Consultation, Joint Contribution, and Shared Benefits” while deeply integrating social responsibility into its operations. Since launching the “Dreams Becoming Reality” CSR campaign in 2024, the project has funded outstanding students in the project area, built a government service center in the Kaghan region, and donated USD 20,000 to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Flood Relief and Rehabilitation Fund. The recent free medical service in collaboration with the military unit at the project site not only exemplifies Suki Kinari Hydropower Project’s concrete efforts to strengthen partnerships with local communities and authorities, but also stands as a vivid reflection of the “iron-clad friendship” between China and Pakistan.
